Hi Everyone,  We are your Student Class President and Vice President for 2020-2021.  If you are returning, welcome back! And if you are just starting, we are happy to have you joining us this year. We know there are a lot of challenges with coming to school during a pandemic, but we want you to know the college is working hard to protect you from the effects of COVID-19.  Things are going to be different in the fall in terms of classes and clubs, but we are very excited to see the community come together and flourish through this hard time. Just remember that the faculty and staff is always here for as are we. When joining NCC, I had already had some college experience under my belt, but I wanted to make sure I was making the most of my time here. Personally, I think that college is way more than just going to class and getting your diploma. College is about the connections that you make and the experiences that you have. It is everything from the first time that you walk through the school doors until the day you walk off the other side of that stage, the friends you make, the clubs you are a part of, the study groups you participate in, and so much more.  In my time here at NCC, I have strived to make the most of these experiences. Good morning NCC! This week, as you know, is our last week of the semester. For me, this means my last week of college (at least for the foreseeable future) and my last day as a Marketing and Communications intern at NCC.  First I want to say that starting this student blog has been such a fun experience for me. I have blogged before, both for school and for fun, but it’s been a privilege working to create a space for students to come, read, and share content that they and their peers have created. I know that the blog hasn’t grown very much since we’ve started it, and I didn’t expect it to. But I hope that it at least served a purpose for some of you, and I know that it will live on past my time here at NCC. What’s Next for the Blog? The NCC Students blog will be taken over in the fall by a new student editor. Hey everyone! First of all, congratulations to all of the NCC 2020 graduates! I’m sure this is anything but what you imagined when you pictured your college graduation, but alas, here we are. I know how tough it is for everyone who is supposed to be graduating this Spring to realize that they aren’t going to have a ceremony at the end of the semester. I am right there with you. You were not required to go to college. Graduating college was a choice you made to better yourself and brighten your future. I know that your friends and family are proud of that choice, and want to celebrate with you. So, my question is, what will you be doing to celebrate your graduation in May, without hosting a huge get together? A Zoom party? Making a candlelight dinner with your significant other? Having a friend over for drinks and to reminisce? Whatever it is you’re doing, I’d love to hear about it. Please share your ideas in the comments for those not so creatively inclined. A message to the graduating class, I know how tough it’s been for everyone in this time. For other seniors, like myself, it’s a little disappointing knowing we won’t be having a graduation ceremony in May. Because of this, I wanted to do something special. I’m hoping that as a graduating class, we can put together a nice video as a reminder of the unique situation that we’ve been in, and that through all of this, we have still pulled through, and are all (soon-to-be) college graduates. I recognize that as a community college, students are of all different ages and phases of life. I think this makes us all the more powerful as a class, and makes our story all the more interesting and meaningful. I hope to put a piece of that story into a short clip for all of us to have and remember for many years to come. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I have been all over social media since this whole thing started. Not only am I relying on it for entertainment, but, of course, for social connections as well. Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok were big as it was, but our generation has taken it to the next level since being quarantined.  One that has blown up, in particular, is TikTok. What started as a cute “high school thing” that was supposed to be a revamp of Musical.ly with a little bit of Vine has turned into a place we all go for laughs and entertainment. Don’t even try to convince me that you don’t. Group hangout apps like House Party and Zoom have been used more and more since this whole thing started too. Not only are we using Zoom for school, but also to chat with our friends and host “hangouts” for social groups that would normally meet in person. Individuals can be as connected or isolated as they want to be, depending on how they chose to use technology.  ...

Happy Monday everyone! I just wanted to let you all know that we are doing a school-wide music video to the song “I’ll Be There for You” by the Rembrandts. We will be using the 50-second clip that is used for the opening of the show Friends! I’ve attached some guidelines for the video. In general, we’re just looking for fun dance/lip-synch clips that we can cut together to make a music video! This is for students and staff, so please, get involved! Please be sure to follow these guidelines so that your video will be included!
